Diaphanous
Diaphanous plays with the assumptions we make about objects before we interact with them. It takes inspiration from an interaction with school children who, having never seen a glass paperweight before, assumed the object would be squashy and jelly-like.
Despite being thought of as hard yet fragile, glass is incredibly malleable and pliable when hot. These soft and delicate forms are natural for the material before it cools into a solid and unyielding shape. The techniques used to colour and alter the surfaces of the glass further enhance this distortion, diffusing and dispersing the light as it enters the internal space through the soft ‘floating’ colours.
